✧ I asked Ibn ʿAbbās about selling wine to the dhimmīs. He said: A man from Thaqīf or from Daws gave the Messenger of God ﷺ a skin of wine in the year of the conquest, and the Messenger of God ﷺ had been his friend in the Jāhiliyyah. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: God has forbidden it. He leaned toward a servant of his who was with him and said: Take it to al-Ḥazwarah—a village near al-Madīnah—and sell it. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: What did you order him? He said: I ordered him to sell it. He said: O so-and-so, the One who forbade drinking it has forbidden its price. So he ordered that it be poured out.
