✧ "People came to him and asked him about selling, buying, and trading wine." Ibn Abbas said, "Are you Muslims?" They said, "Yes." He said, "It is not lawful for a Muslim to sell it, buy it, or trade in it. The example of those who do that among them is like the Children of Israel: fat was forbidden to them, but they did not eat it; they sold it and consumed its price." Then they asked him about tila'. Ibn Abbas said, "What is this tila' of yours that you ask about?" They said, "It is grapes cooked then put into jars." He said, "And what are jars?" They said, "Pitch-lined jars." He said, "Does it intoxicate?" They said, "If one drinks a lot of it, it intoxicates." He said, "Every intoxicant is unlawful." Then they asked him about nabidh. He said, "The Prophet of God ﷺ went on a journey and returned, and some of his companions had made nabidh in hollowed-out stumps, green jars, and gourds. He ordered them to be poured out. He ordered a water skin, and raisins and water were put in it. Nabidh was made for him at night, and he would drink it that day and the coming night, and the next day until evening. When evening came, he drank and gave others to drink, and if any remained in the morning, he poured it out."
