✧ I heard Ibn 'Abbas delivering a sermon on the pulpit of Basra. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: There was no prophet but had a supplication that he hastened to use in this world, and I have reserved my supplication as intercession for my community on the Day of Resurrection. I am the master of the children of Adam, and no boast. I am the first from whom the earth will split open, and no boast. In my hand is the banner of praise, and Adam and those below him are under my banner, and no boast. The Day of Resurrection will be long and severe for people, until some of them say to others: 'Come with us to Adam, the father of mankind, so that he may intercede for us with your Lord and He may judge between us.' So they go to Adam and say: 'O Adam, intercede for us with your Lord so that He may judge between us.' Adam says: 'I am not in that position. I was expelled from the Garden because of my sin, and today nothing concerns me but my own self. But go to Noah.' So they say: 'O Noah, intercede for us with your Lord so that He may judge between us.' He says: 'I am not in that position. I made a supplication that drowned the people of the earth, and today nothing concerns me but my own self. But go to Abraham, the friend of the Most Merciful.' So they come to Abraham ﷺ and say: 'O Abraham, intercede for us with your Lord so that He may judge between us.' He says: 'I am not in that position. I told three lies in Islam: his saying, "I am sick," and his saying, "Rather, the eldest of them did this," and his saying to the king when he passed by him.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'By God, he intended by them nothing but honor for God's religion. And today nothing concerns me but my own self. But go to Moses, a servant whom God chose with His message and spoke to.' So they come to Moses and say: 'O Moses, intercede for us with your Lord so that He may judge between us.' He says: 'I am not in that position. I killed a soul, and today nothing concerns me but my own self. But go to Jesus, God's spirit and His word.' So they come to Jesus and say: 'O Jesus, intercede for us with your Lord so that He may judge between us.' He says: 'I am not in that position. I was taken as a god besides God, and today nothing concerns me but my own self. Do you see that if a piece of goods were in a sealed container, could what is inside it be reached until the seal is broken?' They say: 'No.' He says: 'Then Muhammad ﷺ is the seal of the prophets, and he has arrived, and God has forgiven him his previous and future sins.' So they come to me and say: 'O Muhammad, intercede for us with your Lord so that He may judge between us.' I say: 'I am for it,' until God permits whom He wills and is pleased. Then when God wants to judge between His creation, a caller calls out: 'Where is Ahmad and his community? Where is Ahmad and his community?' So they come, and we are the first and the last: the last to be raised and the first to be judged. So the nations are moved aside from our path, and we proceed with bright faces and limbs from the traces of purification. Then the nations say: 'This community was almost all prophets.'
