✧ While we were with the Messenger of God ﷺ, a man came to him with something like an egg of gold that he had obtained in one of the expeditions. He said: He came to him on his left side and said to him: O Messenger of God, take this from me as charity, for by God, I have not woken up owning any wealth other than it. He turned away from him. Then he came to him on his right side and said to him the like of that, and he turned away from him. Then he came to him from in front of him and said to him the like of that. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, angrily: Bring it. He said: When he gave it to him, he threw it at him; had it hit him it would have hurt or wounded him. Then he said: One of you comes with his wealth, or as he said, owning nothing other than it, giving it as charity, then afterwards sits begging from people? Charity is only from surplus wealth. Take your wealth from us, we have no need of it.
