✧ A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with an egg of gold that he had found in one of the mines. Al-Dawraqi said: “With something like an egg of gold that he had found in one of the mines.” They both said: He said: “O Messenger of Allah, take this from me as charity, for by Allah I have not become such that I own anything other than it.” He turned away from him. Then he came to him from his right side and said the same thing, and he turned away from him. Then he came to him from his left side and said the same thing, and he turned away from him. Then he said it to him a fourth time, and he said: “Give it here,” angrily, and he threw it at him with a throw that, had it hit him, would have wounded him or crippled him. Then he said: “One of you comes with all his wealth and gives it in charity, then he begs from people. Charity is only from surplus wealth.” This is the hadith of Ibn Rafi'. Al-Dawraqi added: “Take your wealth from us, we have no need of it.”
