✧ I was present with my father when he was struck. He said: They praised him with good. He said: A monk and one who desires. They said: Will you not appoint a successor? He said: Should I bear your affair alive and dead? I would love that my share from you be sufficiency, neither against me nor for me. Then he said: If I appoint a successor, then one better than me appointed a successor, and if I leave you, then one better than me left you—the Messenger of God ﷺ. Abdullah b. Umar said: I knew that when he mentioned the Messenger of God ﷺ, he would not appoint a successor.
