حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَخْطُبُ، قَالَ: ذَكَرَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا، فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَظَلُّ الْيَوْمَ يَلْتَوِي مَا يَجِدُ دَقَلًا يَمْلَأُ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ

✧ I heard al-Nu'man b. Bashir delivering a sermon. He said: Umar b. al-Khattab mentioned what the people had acquired of worldly things and said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spend the day doubled over, unable to find even low-quality dates with which to fill his belly.'
