حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ:
قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ قُلْتَ لِي: إِنَّ خَيْرًا لَكَ أَنْ لَا تَسْأَلَ أَحَدًا مِنَ النَّاسِ شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا ذَاكَ أَنْ تَسْأَلَ، وَمَا آتَاكَ اللهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَسْأَلَةٍ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ رِزْقٌ رَزَقَكَهُ اللهُ

✧ I said: 'O Messenger of God, did you not say to me: It is better for you not to ask anyone of the people for anything?' He said: 'That is only if you ask. But what God gives you without asking, it is only provision God has provided for you.'
