حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ بِالْبَصْرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِزَامِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ مُرَقِّعِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَبَاحِ بْنِ رَبِيعٍ، قَالَ:
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ، وَعَلَى مُقَدِّمَةِ النَّاسِ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ مَقْتُولَةٌ عَلَى الطَّرِيقِ، يَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْ خَلْقِهَا، قَدْ أَصَابَتْهَا الْمُقَدِّمَةُ، فَأَتَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ: هَا مَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ تُقَاتِلُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ: أَدْرِكْ خَالِدًا، فَلَا يَقْتُلَنَّ ذُرِّيَّةً، وَلَا عَسِيفًا

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and at the forefront of the people was Khalid ibn al-Walid. Suddenly there was a woman killed on the road, and they were marveling at her form; the vanguard had struck her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and stood over her and said: "Indeed, this woman was not fighting." Then he said to a man: "Catch up with Khalid, and let him not kill any child or hired servant."

machine translationThis hadith was narrated by al-Nasāʾī from ʿUmar b. Muraqqiʿ b. Ṣayfī b. Rabāḥ b. al-Rabīʿ, who said: I heard my father narrating from his grandfather Rabāḥ b. Rabīʿ. He also narrated it from al-Mughīrah, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Muraqqiʿ, from his grandfather Rabāḥ; and from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Muraqqiʿ, from Ḥanẓalah the scribe. He said: It is said that the hadith of Sufyān from Abū al-Zinād is an error (wahm).
