حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ الْحِزَامِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ حَمْزَةَ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ حَمْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَهُ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ، وَأَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَقَالَ: إِنْ أَخَذْتُمْ فُلَانًا فَأَحْرِقُوهُ بِالنَّارِ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّيْتُ دَعُونِي مِنْ وَرَائِي، فَجِئْتُ، فَقَالَ: إِنْ أَخَذْتُمْ فُلَانًا فَاقْتُلُوهُ، وَلَا تُحْرِقُوهُ بِالنَّارِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يُعَذِّبُ بِالنَّارِ إِلَّا رَبُّ النَّارِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him on an expedition and put him in command, and said: 'If you seize so-and-so, burn him with fire.' When I turned away, they called me back, so I came, and he said: 'If you seize so-and-so, kill him, but do not burn him with fire, for none punishes with fire except the Lord of fire.'
