What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThis ḥadīth is an error (khaṭaʾ), and they say that the error in it comes from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī. The narration of Manṣūr is, in their view, the correct one: Shuʿbah, al-Thawrī, Sharīk and others narrated it from Manṣūr, from Ribʿī, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī. In their view, nothing other than this chain of transmission is sound for this ḥadīth. It is rather Ribʿī b. Ḥirāsh's, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī ʿUqbah b. ʿAmr, from the Prophet ﷺ, and it is not Ribʿī's from Ḥudhayfah.
