Sunan Abi Dawud 462

Separating The Women From The Men In The Masjid

Show the chain

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar and ʾAbū Maʿmar
  2. ʿAbd al-Wārith
  3. Ayyūb
  4. Nāfiʿ
  5. Ibn ʿUmar
  6. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

If we left this door for women (it would have been better). Nafi' said: Ibn 'Umar did not enter (the door) until his death. The other except 'Abd al-Warith said: This was said by 'Umar (and not by Ibn 'Umar) and that is more correct.

Notes

machine translationNāfiʿ said: Ibn ʿUmar did not enter through it until he died. Someone other than ʿAbd al-Wārith said: ʿUmar said it, and this is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translationThere is disagreement over this hadith from Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī: ʿAbd al-Wārith made it raised (marfūʿ) to the Prophet, from the narrations of Ibn ʿUmar, while Ismāʿīl made it halted (mawqūf) at ʿUmar, may God be pleased with him. Likewise Bakr b. Muḍar, from ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith, from Bukayr, from Nāfiʿ, narrated it halted (mawqūf) at ʿUmar, may God be pleased with him. The more likely view is that the hadith is both raised (marfūʿ) and halted (mawqūf), and ʿAbd al-Wārith is trustworthy (thiqah), whose addition is accepted.

machine translationThe narration of Ismāʿīl is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) than the narration of ʿAbd al-Wārith.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIbn ʿUyaynah said, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, from ʿUmar, as his own statement, and this is the correct view. Likewise ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar al-ʿUmarī narrated it from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, from ʿUmar, halted (mawqūf).

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThis is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) than the halted report (mawqūf) from ʿUmar.
