What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThis ḥadīth is not found with any of the companions of al-Zuhrī except Sufyān b. Ḥusayn, and among them it is among what he alone narrates, so no proof is established by it.

  • Shafiʿī

    machine translationThis is not sound.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him.

  • Khaṭṭābī

machine translationIt was said that it is not preserved (ghayr maḥfūẓ), and Sufyān b. Ḥusayn is known for poor memory. They said: rather, it is [the wording]: "The wound caused by an animal is without liability."

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationSufyān b. Ḥusayn contradicted the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) in his narration from al-Zuhrī. They narrated it from al-Zuhrī and said: "The animal's damage is without liability, the well is without liability, and the mine is without liability," and they did not mention the foot. That is the correct version.

  • ʿAbd al-ʿAẓīm al-Mudhirī

machine translationSufyān b. Ḥusayn is Abū Muḥammad al-Sulamī al-Wāsiṭī. Al-Bukhārī cited him as supporting evidence, and Muslim narrated from him in the introduction, but neither of them used him as proof, and more than one scholar spoke against him.

  • Shafiʿī

machine translationIt is not sound, because the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) did not preserve it.

machine translationIt is also very weak (wāhiyah).

  • Khaṭṭābī

machine translationPeople have spoken about this ḥadīth, and it was said that it is not preserved (ghayr maḥfūẓ).

  • Khaṭṭābī

machine translationPeople have spoken about this ḥadīth, and it was said that it is not preserved (ghayr maḥfūẓ), and Sufyān b. Ḥusayn is known for poor memory.
