machine translationHishām b. ʿUrwah narrated it, and there is disagreement about him regarding its text (matn). Al-Darāwardī narrated it from Hishām, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah: that the Prophet ﷺ was shrouded in three Saḥūlī garments, and a niche-grave (laḥd) was dug for him and mud bricks were set up over him. A group of Hishām's students contradicted him, among them al-Thawrī, Abū Ḍamrah, ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAmr al-Raqqī, Shuʿayb b. Isḥāq, ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr, ʿUmar b. ʿAlī, Abū Muʿāwiyah and Zamʿah b. Ṣāliḥ, from Hishām; they did not mention in it the niche-grave or the mud bricks. Al-Darāwardī alone related that from Hishām. Makḥūl also narrated it from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, and he too did not mention in it the niche-grave or the mud bricks. That is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version from Hishām b. ʿUrwah.

in سنن أبي داود, p. 3149
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

    حديثها من جهة الإسناد أثبت

machine translationHer hadith is the more firmly established in terms of the chain of transmission (isnād).
