The Prophet ﷺ said: I am commanded to fight with men till they testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Apostle, face our qiblah (direction of prayer), eat what we slaughter, and pray like us. When they do that, their life and property are unlawful for us except what is due to them. They will have the same rights as the Muslims have, and have the same responsibilities as the Muslims have.

machine translationʿAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak, Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb al-Miṣrī and Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā b. Sumayʿ narrate it from Ḥumayd, from Anas. ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, when this hadith was mentioned to him from Ibn al-Mubārak, from Ḥumayd, from Anas, said: "I fear it is an error; perhaps it is from Ḥumayd, from al-Ḥasan, as a mursal report." But it is not so, because Muʿādh b. Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī is among the most reliable (athbāt), and he narrated it from Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl, from Maymūn b. Siyāh, from Anas as his own statement, not raised to the Prophet (ghayr marfūʿ), and that is the correct version.
