machine translationAl-Khaṭṭābī said: Most of the people of knowledge said that nothing is due from him, and they claimed that this is mursal or mawqūf. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: The argument of the one who does not make it obligatory is the inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) of this hadith, and that liability is by default free of obligation, so nothing must be established in it for a poor person or anyone else except by evidence that cannot be rebutted and cannot be criticized, and that is lacking in this issue. The scholar Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl al-Amīr said: As for the one for whom it is authentic, such as Ibn al-Qaṭṭān, he examined its authentication thoroughly and answered the criticisms of its routes, and Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd affirmed it and strengthened it in his book al-Imām, so he has no excuse for not acting upon it. As for the one for whom it is not authentic, such as al-Shāfiʿī and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, the default is freedom from liability, so no proof is established by it.
