Translation

✧ A number of people from Kufa came to 'Umar b. al-Khattab and said: 'We have come to ask you about three matters: about a man's voluntary prayer in his house, about what is lawful for a man from his menstruating wife, and about ghusl from janabah.' He said: 'Are you sorcerers?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'Are you soothsayers?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'Where are you from?' They said: 'From Iraq.' He said: 'From which [part of] Iraq?' They said: 'From the people of Kufa.' He said: 'You have asked me about matters that no one has asked me about since I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about them.'
