Translation
✧ When Fatimah was given in marriage to Ali, we found in his house nothing but spread sand, a cushion stuffed with palm fiber, a jar, and a jug. The Prophet ﷺ sent to Ali: 'Do not do anything' — or he said: 'Do not approach your wife until I come to you.' The Prophet ﷺ came and said: 'Is my brother there?' Umm Ayman, who was the mother of Usamah b. Zayd — she was an Abyssinian and a righteous woman — said: 'O Prophet of Allah, is he your brother and you have married your daughter to him?' — the Prophet ﷺ had established brotherhood among his companions and established brotherhood between Ali and himself — so he said: 'That may be, O Umm Ayman.' He said: The Prophet ﷺ called for a vessel with water and said over it what Allah willed him to say, then sprinkled it on Ali's chest and face. Then he called Fatimah, and she rose toward him stumbling in her cloak from shyness, and he sprinkled some of that water on her and said to her what Allah willed him to say. Then he said to her: 'Indeed, I have not failed you. I have married you to the most beloved of my family to me.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a dark figure behind the curtain or behind the door and said: 'Who is this?' She said: 'Asma'.' He said: 'Asma' bt. Umays?' She said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Have you come in honor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his daughter?' She said: 'Yes. A young woman on the night of her wedding must have a woman near her, so that if a need arises she can confide it to her.' She said: He supplicated for me with a supplication that is the most trustworthy of my deeds with me. Then he said to Ali: 'Take your wife.' Then he left and turned away. She said: He kept supplicating for them both until he disappeared into his rooms.
