Translation
✧ When allegiance was pledged to Abu Bakr, Ali stayed behind in his house. Umar met him and said: Have you withheld from pledging allegiance to Abu Bakr? He said: I swore an oath when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died not to put on a cloak except for the prescribed prayer until I compile the Quran, for I feared the Quran would slip away. Then he went out and pledged allegiance to him.
