عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَيْزَارٍ قَالَ:
سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ وَعُثْمَانَ، فَقَالَ: " أَمَّا عَلِيٌّ فَهَذَا بَيْتُهُ - يَعْنِي: بَيْتُهُ قَرِيبٌ مِنْ بَيْتِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ - وَسَأُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْهُ - يَعْنِي عُثْمَانَ - وَأَمَّا عُثْمَانُ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ، فَإِنَّهُ أَذْنَبَ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ اللهِ ذَنْبًا عَظِيمًا فَغَفَرَ لَهُ، وَأَذْنَبَ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَكُمْ ذَنْبًا صَغِيرًا فَقَتَلْتُمُوهُ
Translation
✧ I asked Ibn Umar about Ali and Uthman. He said: As for Ali, this is his house—meaning his house is near the house of the Prophet ﷺ in the mosque—and I will tell you about him—meaning Uthman. As for Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, he committed a great sin between himself and Allah, and He forgave him; but he committed a small sin between himself and you, and you killed him.
