✧ What Came Concerning the Digging of Zamzam

قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ: قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ فَتْرَةِ الْوَحْيِ فَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: بَيْنَا أَنَا أَمْشِي سَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي، فَإِذَا الَّذِي جَاءَنِي بِحِرَاءٍ جَالِسًا عَلَى كُرْسِيٍّ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ، فَجُئِثْتُ مِنْهُ رُعْبًا، ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ فَقُلْتُ: " زَمِّلُونِي زَمِّلُونِي، وَدَثِّرُونِي " فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ ﴾إِلَى ﴿وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ ﴾قَبْلَ أَنْ تُفْرَضَ الصَّلَاةُ، وَهِيَ الْأَوْثَانُ
Translation
✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ speaking about the pause of revelation, and he said in his hadith: While I was walking, I heard a voice from the sky. I raised my head, and there was the one who had come to me at Hira sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I was terrified by him, then I returned and said: “Wrap me up, wrap me up, and cover me.” Then Allah, Exalted, revealed: “O you wrapped in garments” up to “and shun the idols,” before prayer was made obligatory, and that is the idols.
