Chain of narrators

machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, who said:

✧ Umar sent an army, and he used to send successive armies one after another. They stayed for a while, and no relief force came to them, so they returned. The commander of the detachment wrote to Umar that they had returned, leaving their frontier post, and had set a bad precedent for the people. Umar sent for them, and no one else witnessed that. He became angry with them and threatened them with a severe threat that alarmed them. They said, 'O Umar, why do you separate us? You have abandoned among us the practice of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of sending relief forces for the raiders, one after another.' He said, 'I am not separating you on my own, but because of matters that did not exist among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ from the Ansar.'
