✧ One who asks for martyrdom

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الْأَحْدَبِ، عَنْ مَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ:
لَأَنْ أَمُوتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِي - قَالَ وَاصِلٌ: قَالَ: أُرَاهُ قَالَ: - صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا، أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَقْدِمَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ لَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُونِي، قَالَ: أَوَلَيْسَ اللهُ يَأْتِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ وَالرَّجُلُ عَظِيمُ الْعَنَا عَنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، مَحْزِيٌّ لِمَكَانِهِ
Translation
✧ That I die on my bed - Wasil said: He said: I think he said - patiently and expecting reward is dearer to me than that I advance against a people whom I do not want to kill me. He said: Does not Allah bring about martyrdom while the man is greatly concerned about his companions, honored for his position?
