عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: الْفِرَارُ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ ؟ قَالَ: " الْفَارُّ غَيْرُ الْمُتَحَرِّفِ لِلْقِتَالِ، وَلَا الْمُتَحَيِّزِ لِلْفِئَةِ قَوْلَ اللهِ "، قُلْتُ: إِنْ فَرَّ رَجُلٌ فِي غَيْرِ زَحْفٍ، قَالَ: " لَا بَأْسَ بِذَلِكَ، إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ فِي الزَّحْفِ
Translation

machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ I said to 'Ata': "Fleeing from the advancing army?" He said: "The one who flees is not the one who turns aside for fighting, nor the one who withdraws to a group—God's saying." I said: "If a man flees not in an advancing army?" He said: "There is no harm in that; that is only in the advancing army."
