عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي رَجُلٌ، مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ مِمَّنْ كَانَ يَحْرُسُ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ: قَالَ:
مَا رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَتَلَ أَسِيرًا قَطُّ، إِلَّا وَاحِدًا مِنَ التُّرْكِ قَالَ: جِيءَ بِأَسْرَى مِنَ التُّرْكِ قَالَ: فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ أَنْ يُسْتَرَقُّوا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ جَاءَ بِهِمْ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، لَوْ كُنْتَ رَأَيْتَ هَذَا لِأَحَدِهِمْ وَهُوَ يَقْتُلُ فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ لَكَثُرَ بُكَاؤُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ، قَالَ: " فَدُونَكَ فَاقْتُلْهُ " قَالَ: فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَتَلَهُ
Translation
✧ I never saw 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz kill a captive at all, except one from the Turks. He said, 'Captives from the Turks were brought.' He said, 'He ordered that they be enslaved.' A man among those who brought them said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, if you had seen this one of them killing among the Muslims, you would have wept much for them.' He said, 'Then you—go and kill him.' He said, 'So he arose and killed him.'
