Translation

✧ A mukatab (slave with a contract of manumission) whom the enemy had captured, and then a man bought him. Bakr b. Qirwash asked Ali about him, and Ali ﷺ said, "What do you say about it, O Bakr b. Qirwash?" He said, "Allah knows best." Ali said, "I am the servant of Allah and the cousin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If his master ransoms him, then he remains on the remainder of his contract. If his master refuses to ransom him, then he belongs to the one who bought him."
