عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي:
أَنَّ عُمَرَ قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ وَلِيدٍ مِنْ وِلَادَةِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، قَالَ: وَكَانَتْ نِسَاءُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَيْسَ لَهُنَّ عِدَّةٌ، قَالَ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ ذَهَبَ مَعَ الشَّيْخِ إِلَى عُمَرَ فَوَجَدَهُ جَالِسًا فِي الْحِجْرِ، فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ: أَمَّا النُّطْفَةُ فَمِنْ فُلَانٍ ؟ وَأَمَّا الْوَلَدُ فَعَلَى فِرَاشِ فُلَانٍ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " صَدَقْتَ، وَلَكِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَضَى بِالْفِرَاشِ قَالَ: فَلَمَّا قَامَ الشَّيْخُ قَالَ عُمَرُ: " تَعَالَا، حَدِّثْنِي عَنْ بِنَاءِ الْكَعْبَةِ " قَالَ: إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا تَقَوَّوْا لِبِنَاءِ الْكَعْبَةِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَعَجَزُوا وَاسْتَقْصَرُوا، وَتَرَكُوا بِنَاءَهَا، بَعْضُهَا فِي الْحِجْرِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " صَدَقْتَ ".
Translation
✧ 'Umar came to Makkah and sent for an old man from Banu Zuhrah to ask him about a child born in the Jahiliyyah. He said: The women of the Jahiliyyah did not have a waiting period. He said: He told me that he went with the old man to 'Umar and found him sitting in the Hijr. He asked him, and he said: As for the sperm, it is from so-and-so, and as for the child, it belongs to the bed of so-and-so. 'Umar said: You have spoken the truth, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled by the bed. He said: When the old man stood up, 'Umar said: Come, tell me about the building of the Ka'bah. He said: Quraysh gathered strength to build the Ka'bah in the Jahiliyyah, but they fell short and were unable, and they left part of its building in the Hijr. 'Umar said: You have spoken the truth.
