عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ:
وَفَدَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ فِي خِلَافَتِهِ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ: مَا أَظُنُّ أَبَا خُبَيْبٍ سَمِعَ مِنْ عَائِشَةَ مَا كَانَ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ مِنْهَا، قَالَ: وَكَانَ الْحَارِثُ مُصَدَّقًا لَا يَكْذِبُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتَهَا تَقُولُ مَاذَا ؟ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهَا تَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّ قَوْمَكِ اسْتَقْصَرُوا مِنْ بُنْيَانِ الْبَيْتِ، وَإِنِّي لَوْلَا حَدَاثَةُ عَهْدِهِمْ بِالشِّرْكِ أَعَدْتُ فِيهِ مَا تَرَكُوا مِنْهُ، فَإِنْ بَدَا لِقَوْمِكِ أَنْ يَبْنُوهُ مِنْ بَعْدِي فَهَلُمَّ لِأُرِيَكِ مَا تَرَكُوا مِنْهُ، فَأَرَاهَا قَرِيبًا مِنْ سَبْعَةِ أَذْرُعٍ
Translation
✧ Al-Harith b. 'Abd Allah came as a delegate to 'Abd al-Malik during his caliphate. 'Abd al-Malik said: I do not think Abu Khubayb heard from 'A'ishah what he claimed to have heard from her. He said: Al-Harith was truthful and did not lie. He said: You heard her say what? He said: I heard her say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Your people shortened the building of the House, and were it not for their recent time with polytheism, I would have restored what they left out of it. If your people decide to rebuild it after me, come and let me show you what they left out of it. He showed her about seven cubits.
