عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ
أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمُطَّلِبِ لَمَّا أَنْبَطَ زَمْزَمَ بَنَى عَلَيْهَا حَوْضًا فَطَفِقَ هُوَ وَابْنُهُ الْحَارِثُ يَنْزِعَانِ فَيَمْلَآنِ ذَلِكَ الْحَوْضَ فَيُشْرِبَانِ مِنْهُ الْحَاجَّ، فَيَكْسِرُهُ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ حَسَدَةِ قُرَيْشٍ بِاللَّيْلِ وَيُصْلِحُهُ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ، فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرُوا إِفْسَادَهُ دَعَا عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَبَّهُ، فَأُرِيَ فِي الْمَنَامِ، فَقَالَ: قُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَا أُحِلُّهَا لِمُغْتَسِلٍ، وَلَكِنْ هِيَ لِشَارِبٍ حِلٌّ وَبِلٌّ، ثُمَّ كَفَيْتُهُمْ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ حِينَ أَجْفَلَتْ قُرَيْشٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَنَادَى بِالَّذِي أُرِيَ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُفْسِدُ حَوْضَهُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا رُمِيَ بِدَاءٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ، حَتَّى تَرَكُوا لَهُ حَوْضَهُ وَسِقَايَتَهُ ".
Translation
✧ When 'Abd al-Muttalib dug Zamzam, he built a basin over it, and he and his son al-Harith began drawing water and filling that basin, giving the pilgrims to drink from it. But some people, out of envy of Quraysh, would break it at night, and 'Abd al-Muttalib would repair it in the morning. When they kept damaging it repeatedly, 'Abd al-Muttalib called upon his Lord and was shown something in a dream. He said: 'Say: O Allah, I do not permit it for one who bathes, but it is permitted and lawful for one who drinks.' Then you will be spared them. 'Abd al-Muttalib said when Quraysh rushed into the mosque, he called out with what he had been shown, then departed. After that, no one damaged his basin except that he was struck with a disease in his body, until they left his basin and his water-giving alone."
