Translation

✧ Heraclius wrote to Muawiya asking him about three things: which place, if you pray in it, you would think you had not prayed toward the qibla; which place the sun rose in once and had not risen in before or after; and about the obliteration on the moon. He said: Muawiya sought knowledge of that, and he would have liked to learn it from someone other than Ibn Abbas but did not find it, so he wrote about it to Ibn Abbas. He wrote to them: 'As for the place where if you pray in it you would think you had not prayed toward the qibla, it is the roof of the Kaaba. As for the place where the sun rose once and had not risen in before or after, it is the sea when God parted it for Moses. As for the obliteration on the moon, God Almighty says: 'And We obliterated the sign of the night' – that is the obliteration.'
