Translation
✧ Ibn Hisham forbade women from performing tawaf with men. He reported and said: "How can you forbid them from tawaf when the wives of the Prophet ﷺ performed tawaf with men?" I said: "After the hijab?" He said: "Yes, by my life, I was present, by my life, after the hijab." I said: "How did they mix with men?" He said: "They would not do so. A'ishah would perform tawaf apart from the men, not mixing with them. A woman with her said: 'Come with us, O Mother of the Believers, to touch the corner.' She pulled her and said: 'Go away from me,' and she refused to touch it. They would go out veiled at night, and they would perform tawaf with men, not mixing with them." He said: "But when they entered the House, they were screened when they entered, then the men were sent out." He said: "'Ubayd b. 'Umayr and I used to come to A'ishah when she was in residence in the heart of Thabir. I said: 'What was her screen then?' He said: 'She was in a Turkish tent of hers, with a covering over it, between us and her.' He said: 'But I saw her wearing a saffron-dyed gown when I was a boy.'"
