✧ The Game of the Trained Animal, and Whether Hunting Dogs Are Sent after Carrion

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَرْضِي أَرْضُ صَيْدٍ قَالَ: إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَ، وَسَمَّيْتَ فَكُلْ مِمَّا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْكَ كَلْبُكَ، وَإِنْ قَتَلَ، فَإِنْ أَكَلَ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ؛ فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَمْسَكَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، وَإِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ، فَخَالَطَتْهُ أَكْلُبٌ لَمْ يُسَمَّ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهَا، فَلَا تَأْكُلْ، لَا تَدْرِي أَيُّهَا قَتَلَهُ ". قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرْمِي الصَّيْدَ فَيَغِيبُ عَنِّي لَيْلَةً قَالَ: " إِذَا وَجَدْتَ فِيهِ سَهْمَكَ، وَلَمْ تَجِدْ فِيهِ غَيْرَهُ فَكُلْهُ
Translation
✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, my land is a land of game. He said: "When you send your trained dog and pronounce the name of Allah, then eat of what your dog holds back for you, even if it kills. But if it eats, then do not eat from it, for it has only held it back for itself. And when you send your dog and other dogs that have not had the name of Allah pronounced over them mix with it, then do not eat, for you do not know which of them killed it." He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, I shoot at game and it disappears from me for a night. He said: "If you find your arrow in it and find nothing else in it, then eat it."
