عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ قَالَ:
كُنْتُ مُحْرِمًا، فَرَأَيْتُ ظَبْيًا فَرَمَيْتُهُ، فَأَصَبْتُ خُشَشَاءَهُ يَعْنِي أَصْلَ قَرْنِهِ، فَرَكِبَ رَدْعَهُ، فَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ، فَأَتَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَسْأَلُهُ فَوَجَدْتُ لَمَّا جِئْتُهُ رَجُلًا أَبْيَضَ رَقِيقَ الْوَجْهِ، وَإِذَا هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ قَالَ: فَسَأَلْتُ عُمَرَ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، فَقَالَ: " تَرَى شَاةً تَكْفِيهِ ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَذْبَحَ شَاةً "، فَقُمْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ، فَقَالَ صَاحِبٌ لِي: إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَمْ يُحْسِنْ أَنْ يُفْتِيَكَ حَتَّى سَأَلَ الرَّجُلَ فَسَمِعَ عُمَرُ كَلَامَهُ، فَعَلَاهُ عُمَرُ بِالدِّرَّةِ ضَرْبًا، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيَّ عُمَرُ لِيَضْرِبَنِي، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَمْ أَقُلْ شَيْئًا إِنَّمَا هُوَ قَالَهُ قَالَ: فَتَرَكَنِي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَ الْحَرَامَ وَتَتَعَدَّى الْفُتْيَا "، قَالَ: " إِنَّ فِي الْإِنْسَانِ عَشَرَةَ أَخْلَاقٍ، تِسْعَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ، وَوَاحِدَةٌ سَيِّئَةٌ، فَيُفْسِدُهَا ذَلِكَ السَّيِّئُ، وَقَالَ: إِيَّاكَ وَعَثْرَةَ الشَّبَابِ
Translation
✧ I was in ihram and saw an antelope, so I shot it and hit its khushasha'—meaning the base of its horn—so it collapsed in its blood, and I felt uneasy about that. I came to Umar b. al-Khattab to ask him, and when I arrived, I found a fair-skinned man with a delicate face, and he was Abd al-Rahman b. Awf. So I asked Umar, and he turned to Abd al-Rahman and said: "Do you think a sheep would suffice for him?" He said: "Yes." So he ordered me to slaughter a sheep. We got up from his presence, and a companion of mine said: "The Commander of the Believers could not give you a proper fatwa until he asked the man." Umar heard his words and struck him with the whip. Then Umar turned to me to strike me, but I said: "O Commander of the Believers, I did not say anything; it was he who said it." So he left me, then said: "You wanted to kill the sacred game and transgress in the fatwa." He said: "In a person there are ten traits, nine good and one bad, and that one bad trait corrupts them." And he said: "Beware of the slip of youth."
