Translation
✧ I set out with some companions of mine until we reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ but did not find him. Aisha fed us dates and prepared some porridge for us. Then the Prophet ﷺ came walking with a slight limp. He said: Did you feed them anything? We said: Yes. While we were in that situation, the shepherd brought the sheep into the enclosure with a newborn lamb in his hand. He said: Has it given birth? He said: Yes. He said: Then slaughter a sheep for them. Then he turned to us and said: Do not think—and he did not say 'do not think'—that we slaughtered the sheep because of you. We have one hundred sheep, and we do not want them to exceed that number. When the shepherd brings us a newborn lamb, we order him to slaughter a sheep. He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about ablution. He said: When you perform ablution, do it thoroughly, and run your fingers between the toes, and when you rinse your nose, do it thoroughly unless you are fasting. He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, I have a wife, and I mentioned her long tongue and abusive speech. He said: Divorce her. I said: O Messenger of Allah, she is a companion and has given birth. He said: Keep her and command her, for if there is any good in her, she will do it. And do not strike your wife as you would strike your slave woman.
