عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ قَالَ:
كُنَّا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ لَهُ، فَاعْتَزَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ، فَقَالَ: " مَا لَهُ ؟ " قَالُوا: إِنَّهُ صَائِمٌ قَالَ: " وَمَا صَوْمُهُ ؟ " قَالَ: الدَّهْرُ، قَالَ: " فَجَعَلَ يَقْرَعُ رَأْسَهُ بِقَنَاةٍ مَعَهُ "، وَيَقُولُ: كُلْ يَا دَهْرُ، كُلْ يَا دَهْرُ
Translation
✧ We were with ‘Umar b. al-Khattab when food was brought to him. A man from the group withdrew, so he said: “What is the matter with him?” They said: “He is fasting.” He said: “What is his fast?” They said: “Perpetual fasting.” He began striking his head with a cane he had, saying: “Eat, O perpetual faster; eat, O perpetual faster!”
