عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ وَابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، قَالَا: أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:

أَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ، وَكَانَ يَصُومُ نِصْفَ الدَّهْرِ، وَأَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللهِ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ، وَكَانَ يَرْقُدُ شَطْرَ اللَّيْلِ، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ ثُلُثَهُ، ثُمَّ يَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ، وَكَانَ لَا يَفِرُّ إِذَا لَاقَى

Translation

✧ The most beloved fasting to God is the fasting of David, and he used to fast half of the time; and the most beloved prayer to God is the prayer of David, and he used to sleep half the night, then stand in prayer for a third of it, then sleep a sixth of it; and he would not flee when he met the enemy.
