عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ قَالَ:
جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَسْأَلُهُ: كَيْفَ صِيَامُكَ ؟ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، وَكَانَ إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ يَكْرَهُهُ عُرِفَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ غَضَبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: كَيْفَ تَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فِي صِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا صَامَ، وَلَا أَفْطَرَ "، أَوْ قَالَ: " مَا صَامَ، وَمَا أَفْطَرَ "، قَالَ: فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي صِيَامِ يَوْمَيْنِ، وَفِطْرِ يَوْمٍ ؟ قَالَ: " وَمَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ ؟ "، قَالَ: فَصِيَامُ يَوْمٍ، وَفِطْرُ يَوْمَيْنِ ؟ قَالَ: " وَدِدْتُ أَنْ أُطِيقَ ذَلِكَ "، قَالَ: فَصِيَامُ يَوْمٍ، وَفِطْرُ يَوْمٍ ؟ قَالَ: " ذَلِكَ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ "، قَالَ: فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي صِيَامِ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ؟ قَالَ: " ذَلِكَ صِيَامُ الدَّهْرِ "، قَالَ: فَصِيَامُ يَوْمِ الِاثْنَيْنِ ؟ قَالَ: " ذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ وُلِدْتُ فِيهِ، وَيَوْمٌ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيَّ فِيهِ "، قَالَ: فَصِيَامُ عَاشُورَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: " كَفَّارَةُ سَنَةٍ "، قَالَ: فَصِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ ؟ قَالَ: " كَفَّارَةُ سَنَةٍ، وَمَا قَبْلَهَا
Translation
✧ A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him: “How is your fasting?” He turned away from him, and when he was asked about something he disliked it was known from his face. He remained silent until the Prophet’s ﷺ anger subsided. Then ‘Umar said to him: “What do you say, O Messenger of God, about fasting perpetually?” He said: “He has neither fasted nor broken the fast,” or he said: “He has not fasted and he has not broken the fast.” He said: “What do you say about fasting two days and breaking the fast one day?” He said: “Who can bear that?” He said: “Fasting one day and breaking the fast two days?” He said: “I wish I could bear that.” He said: “Fasting one day and breaking the fast one day?” He said: “That is the fasting of David.” He said: “What do you say about fasting three days of every month?” He said: “That is fasting perpetually.” He said: “Fasting on Monday?” He said: “That is the day on which I was born and the day on which revelation first came to me.” He said: “Fasting on ‘Ashura’?” He said: “It expiates a year.” He said: “Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah?” He said: “It expiates a year and the year before it.”
