عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَأَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ:
لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: أَلَمْ أُحَدَّثْ أَنَّكَ تَقُولُ، أَوْ أَنْتَ الَّذِي تَقُولُ: " لَأَقُومَنَّ اللَّيْلَ، وَلَأَصُومَنَّ النَّهَارَ ؟ " قَالَ: أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: " فَقُمْ، وَنَمْ، وَأَفْطِرْ، وَصُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ، فَذَلِكَ مِثْلُ صِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ "، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ: " فَصُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمَيْنِ "، حَتَّى قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ: " فَصُمْ يَوْمًا، وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا، وَهُوَ أَعْدَلُ الصَّوْمِ، وَهُوَ صَوْمُ دَاوُدَ "، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " لَا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ
Translation
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ met me and said: “Have I not been told that you say — or are you the one who says — ‘I shall certainly stand in prayer at night and fast during the day?’” He said: I think he said: “Yes, O Messenger of God.” He said: “Then pray and sleep, break the fast and fast three days of every month, for that is like fasting perpetually.” He said: I said: “O Messenger of God, I am able to do better than that.” He said: “Then fast one day and break the fast for two days,” until I said: “I am able to do better than that.” He said: “Then fast one day and break the fast one day — that is the most moderate fasting, and it is the fasting of David.” He said: I said: “I am able to do better than that.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “There is nothing better than that.”
