Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ came to Madinah and found the Jews fasting the day of Ashura. They said, 'This is a great day which the Jews venerate.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'We are more entitled to venerate it.' So he fasted it and commanded it be fasted. Then when its fasting was sent down, whoever wished fasted it, and whoever wished left it.
