✧ The man who comes for the night prayer and has not prayed the Isha

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَرْمَلَةَ قَالَ:
جِئْتُ النَّاسَ، وَهُمْ فِي الْقِيَامِ، وَلَمْ أَكُنْ صَلَّيْتُ الْعِشَاءَ، فَصَلَّيْتُ لِنَفْسِي الْعِشَاءَ وَحْدِي، وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، فَقَالَ: " أَصَبْتَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي: " وَمَا شَغَلَكَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ ؟ " فَاعْتَذَرْتُ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: " مَا رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ مُنْذُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً يَقُولُ: مَا رَأَيْتُهُمْ مُنْصَرِفِينَ لَمْ تَفُتْنِي
Translation
✧ I came to the people while they were in the night prayer, and I had not prayed Isha. So I prayed Isha for myself alone while they were praying. Then I mentioned that to Ibn al-Musayyib, and he said, 'You did right.' He said, then he said to me, 'What kept you from the prayer?' I made an excuse to him, and he said, 'I have not seen the people for forty years' — meaning, 'I have not seen them leaving without my having caught it.'
