✧ Breaking a voluntary fast and fasting it if one did not intend it at night

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ:

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَوْمًا، فَقَالَ: هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ طَعَامٌ ؟ " قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: " إِذًا أَصُومُ الْيَوْمَ " قَالَتْ: ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى، فَقُلْتُ: قَدْ أُهْدِيَ لَنَا حُبَيْشٌ أَوْ حَيْسٌ - شَكَّ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ - فَقَالَ: " إِذًا أُفْطِرُ الْيَوْمَ، وَقَدْ كُنْتُ فَرَضْتُ الصِّيَامَ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ entered upon me one day and said: 'Do you have any food?' She said: I said: 'No.' He said: 'Then I will fast today.' She said: Then he entered another time, and I said: 'We have been gifted hubaysh or hays—'Abd al-Razzaq was uncertain—so he said: 'Then I will break my fast today, and I had already intended to fast.'
