أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، وَابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَا: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتَ:
خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ فَصَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَبَاتَ رِجَالٌ فَصَلَّوْا مَعَهُ بِصَلَاتِهِ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ تَحَدَّثُوا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَاجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى كَادَ الْمَسْجِدُ يَعْجِزُ بِأَهْلِهِ، فَجَلَسَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ نَاسًا يَقُولُونَ: الصَّلَاةَ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ فَتَشَهَّدَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخْفَ عَلَيَّ شَأْنُكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ، وَلَكِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُفْرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَعْجِزُوا عَنْهُ
Translation
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out one night in the middle of the night and prayed in the mosque. Some men stayed and prayed with him following his prayer. When morning came, the people talked about how the Prophet ﷺ had come out and prayed in the mosque. The people gathered until the mosque almost could not accommodate its people. The Prophet ﷺ sat and did not come out to them until I heard people saying, 'The prayer!' He did not come out until he had prayed the dawn prayer and given the salutation. Then he stood among the people, pronounced the testimony of faith, and said, 'To proceed: your situation last night was not hidden from me, but I feared it would be made obligatory upon you, and then you would be unable to do it.'
