✧ Standing in prayer during Ramadan

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ:
صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةً فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَمَعَهُ نَاسٌ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الثَّانِيَةَ فَاجْتَمَعَ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ أَكْثَرُ مِنَ الْأُولَى، فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ الثَّالِثَةُ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةُ امْتَلَأَ الْمَسْجِدُ حَتَّى غَصَّ بِأَهْلِهِ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يُنَادُونَهُ الصَّلَاةَ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: مَا زَالَ النَّاسُ يَنْتَظِرُونَكَ الْبَارِحَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ! قَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخْفَ عَلَيَّ أَمْرُهُمْ، وَلَكِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُكْتَبَ عَلَيْهِمْ
Translation
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed one night in the month of Ramadan in the mosque, and some people were with him. Then he prayed the second night, and that night more people gathered than the first. When it was the third or fourth night, the mosque was filled to capacity with its people, but he did not come out to them. The people began calling out to him, 'The prayer!' When morning came, Umar b. al-Khattab said, 'The people kept waiting for you last night, O Messenger of Allah!' He said, 'Indeed, their affair was not hidden from me, but I feared it would be made obligatory upon them.'
