عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ
أَنَّ بَعْضَ أُمَرَائِهِمْ - مُعَاوِيَةَ أَوْ غَيْرَهُ - أَرَادَ جَمْعَ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ عَلَى قَارِئٍ وَاحِدٍ فَقَالَ: مُكْرَهٌ كرنبس: " لَا تَفْعَلْ، دَعِ النَّاسَ مَنْ شَاءَ طَافَ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ صَلَّى بِصَلَاةِ الْقَارِئِ " فَفَعَلَ
Translation
✧ One of their commanders — Mu'awiyah or someone else — wanted to gather the people of Makkah behind one reciter, so a reluctant Karabbus said: 'Do not do it. Leave the people: whoever wishes may circumambulate, and whoever wishes may pray with the reciter's prayer.' So he did.
