✧ The Night of Decree

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ: أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ يَعْنِي أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ، أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ؛ فَإِنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ يَقُولُ: مَنْ يَقُمِ الْحَوْلَ يُصِبْهَا قَالَ: يَرْحَمُ اللهُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، لَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّهَا فِي رَمَضَانَ، وَلَكِنَّهُ عَمَّى عَلَى النَّاسِ كَيْ لَا يَتَّكِلُوا، وَالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ الْكِتَابَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ إِنَّهَا لَفِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ، وَإِنَّهَا لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ ! بِمَا عَلِمْتَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ: بِالْآيَةِ الَّذِي أَخْبَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَدْ رَأَيْنَا وَحَفِظْنَا، فَوَاللهِ إِنَّهَا لَهِيَ مَا يَسْتَثْنِي قَالَ: - قُلْتُ لِزِرٍّ - وَمَا الْآيَةُ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ غَدَاتَئِذٍ كَأَنَّهَا طَسْتٌ لَيْسَ لَهَا شُعَاعٌ
Translation
✧ I said: O Abu al-Mundhir, meaning Ubayy b. Kab, tell me about the Night of Decree, for Ibn Umm Abd says: Whoever keeps vigil the whole year will catch it. He said: May Allah have mercy on Abu Abd al-Rahman. He knew that it is in Ramadan, but he made it unclear to people so they do not become complacent. By the One who sent down the Book upon Muhammad ﷺ, it is indeed in the month of Ramadan, and it is indeed the night of the twenty-seventh. I said: O Abu al-Mundhir, how did you know that? He said: By the sign that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us of. We saw it and memorized it. By Allah, it is indeed that, with no exception. He said: I said to Zirr: What is the sign? He said: That the sun rises on that morning like a brass tray, with no rays.
