✧ The Night of Decree

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ زِرَّ بْنَ حُبَيْشٍ وَقَامَ الْحَجَّاجُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَذْكُرُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فَكَأَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ قَوْمًا يَذْكُرُونَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ، فَجَعَلَ زِرٌّ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَثِبَ عَلَيْهِ، وَيَحْبِسُهُ النَّاسُ، قَالَ زِرٌّ: " هِيَ لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، فَمَنْ أَدْرَكَهَا فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ، وَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى لَبَنٍ، وَلْيَكُنْ فِطْرُهُ بِالسَّحَرِ
Translation
✧ I saw Zirr b. Hubaysh while al-Hajjaj stood on the pulpit mentioning the Night of Decree, and it was as if he said: Some people mention the Night of Decree. Zirr wanted to leap at him, but the people restrained him. Zirr said: It is the night of the twenty-seventh. Whoever catches it should perform a ritual bath, break his fast on milk, and let his breaking of fast be at dawn.
