✧ Making up the month of Ramadan for the traveler

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: فَرَجُلٌ أَفْطَرَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ، ثُمَّ لَمْ يَزَلْ مُسَافِرًا حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ مُسَافِرًا مَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: " لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا أَنْ يَقْضِيَ الْأَوَّلَ، وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يُطْعِمَ "، قُلْتُ: فَرَجُلٌ أَفْطَرَ رَمَضَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ، ثُمَّ أَقَامَ، وَلَمْ يَقْضِهِ حَتَّى أَلْفَاهُ رَمَضَانُ الْمُقْبِلُ مُسَافِرًا أَيُفْطِرُ إِنْ شَاءَ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، ثُمَّ يُطْعِمُ ثَلَاثِينَ مِسْكِينًا ثَلَاثِينَ مُدًّا
Translation
✧ I said to ʿAtaʾ: "What about a man who broke the fast in Ramadan while traveling, then remained traveling until the next Ramadan caught up with him, traveling throughout?" He said: "Nothing is due from him except that he makes up the first one, and he does not have to feed anyone." I said: "What about a man who broke the fast of Ramadan while traveling, then settled, and did not make it up until the next Ramadan found him traveling? May he break the fast if he wishes?" He said: "Yes, then he feeds thirty needy persons, thirty mudds."
