Translation
✧ Umar b. Abd al-Aziz delivered a sermon during his caliphate and said: 'Look for the crescent of Ramadan. If you see it, then fast; if you do not see it, then complete thirty days.' He said: The people woke up, some fasting and some not fasting, and they had not seen the crescent. Then news came to them that the crescent had been sighted. He said: The people spoke to Umar, and he sent guards through the army saying: 'Whoever woke up fasting should complete his fast, for he has been guided to it. Whoever woke up not fasting and has not tasted anything should complete the rest of his day. Whoever has eaten something should complete the rest of his day and make up a day in its place later. Indeed, today I licked a lick of honey, so I am fasting for the remainder of my day, then I will replace it later.'
