✧ When the required age of livestock is not available

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ يَقُولُ:

فِي خَمْسٍ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ شَاةٌ، فَإِذَا لَمْ يُوجَدْ أُخِذَتِ السِّنُّ الَّتِي دُونَهَا، وَغُرِّمَ صَاحِبُ الْمَاشِيَةِ شَاتَيْنِ، أَوْ عَشَرَةَ دَرَاهِمَ

Translation

✧ For five camels, one sheep is due. If that is not found, the age below it is taken, and the livestock owner is charged two sheep or ten dirhams.
