✧ Sale of charity before it is taken in hand

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ،
أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعُثْمَانَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي سُوَيْدٍ: مَا أَظُنُّهُ يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَبِيعُوا الصَّدَقَةَ حَتَّى تَعْتَقِلُوهَا، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ لِطَاوُسٍ: زَعَمَ هَذَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَنَّهُ لَا يَحِلُّ لَنَا أَنْ نَبِيعَ الصَّدَقَةَ حَتَّى تُعْتَقَلَ، فَقَالَ طَاوُسٌ: " وَرَبِّ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ، وَهُوَ فِي ظِلِّهِ مَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَبِيعُوهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تُعْتَقَلَ، وَلَا بَعْدَ مَا تُعْتَقَلُ مَا كُلِّفْتُمْ ذَلِكَ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ لَكُمْ فَاعْقِلُوهَا، وَسِمُوا
Translation
✧ He said to ‘Uthmān b. Muḥammad b. Abī Suwayd: I do not think it is lawful for you to sell the zakat until you have taken it in hand. ‘Uthmān said to Ṭāwūs: This Ibrāhīm claims that it is not lawful for us to sell the zakat until it is taken in hand. Ṭāwūs said: “By the Lord of this House, and he was in its shade, it is not lawful for you to sell it before it is taken in hand, nor after it is taken in hand. You were not obligated to do that. If you must, then take it in hand and mark it.” [or: and brand them]
